Panaji: Goa police Thursday arrested a 47-year-old man from Gujarat for raping a woman tourist in a resort in Assanora village.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi said that Laxman Shiyar (47) was arrested for raping a woman (age not disclosed by police) in a starred resort at Assnora village.
Dalvi said that accused was introduced to the victim in a flight earlier to their visit to Goa after which they were knowing each other.
As per the complaint filed with police, the accused “induced the victim to give her mobile phone number and later started contacting her” after their introduction on the flight.
“While the victim and accused were on Goa tour on their own (on August 23, 2023), started calling her on mobile phone and further made her to come to his resort at Assonora under pretext of showing amenities available in said Resort,” Dalvi said quoting the complaint.
He said that the accused allegedly taking advantage that she had arrived alone in the resort, took her in the room of the resort and raped her and threatened “not to disclose about the incident to anybody.”
Dalvi said that on Thursday when they received the complaint, police teams were formed and accused was arrested in Thivim village.
The team comprising PI Colvale Shri. Vijay Rane and team consisting of LPSI Sonam Verenkar, PSI Rohan Madgaonkar HC- Rupesh, PC-Sulesh and PC Ajay swung in to action. First it was learnt through mobile location that accused left the Resort and was moving in Panaji area.. Further it was learnt through mobile location that accused is moving towards Mapusa direction. Team thereafter started searching him and after making meticulous efforts nabbed accused Laxmanbhai Shiyar age 47 yrs r/o Gujarat in Thivim area.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SP North Shri. Nidhin Valson, IPS, SDPO Mapusa Shri. Jivba Dalvi. Further investigation is in progress with LPSI Sonam Verenkar.
