Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday termed the GST reforms as an “early historic Diwali gift by PM Narendra Modi.”
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Sawant said that since the inception of the one-nation-one-tax policy, the reforms passed by the GST council are welcomed by people from all sections of society.
He said that an early historic Diwali gift arrives with Next Gen GST Reforms, strengthening the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and uplifting every Bharatiya with ease of living.
Sawant said that the Revenues of the state has been increased since the time GST has been introduced which has also brought more tax payers under the umbrella.
He said that on July 01, 2017, there were 22,197 tax payers which has been increased to 47,332 as on July 01, 2025, which is 112 per cent hike.
Sawant said that the GST collection of the state has improved from Rs 1,463 crore in the year 2017-18 to Rs 4,424 crore in the current financial year.
The chief minister said that the reforms in the GST slabs will reduce the prices of essential items, thereby helping the people of the country.
He said that it will have ease of living and ease of doing business.
