Panaji: If you think that clicking `selfie’ can only be for a personal purpose, then think twice. Goa-based like minded netizens have cobbled a mega group of more than 7,000 members who are finding connection through ‘selfies.’
Businessman Darshan Kerkar began this initiative on July 21, 2016 when he started the group ‘Life Selfie.’
“It was a group of like minded people from Goa who were allowed to post only ‘selfies’ on the group. The response was tremendous. Many people started joining in,” recalls Kerkar.
He said that over the time, the group has been increased to more than 7,000 members. Kerkar says “this is not a group, but a family.”
The members for this group are selected cautiously. Anyone with negative intentions are not allowed.
Kerkar is helped by another group member Leena Bhatcar Dubhashi, a Ponda based textile designer.
The group also launches ‘picture of the day’ event on special days where the members can put up their special pictures.
Not to forget, the selfie in saree and other initiatives have been getting good response from the group members.
Kerkar said that they have been getting thousands of friend’s requests from across India, but only Goans are given preference. And those who involve in nasty comments are deleted from the group immediately.
Taking a step further, the group also organizes get together for its members.
