Panaji: Goa government on Thursday announced that all the shops providing essential items like groceries, milk and vegetable would be kept open round the clock during lockdown period.
State chief minister Pramod Sawant said that though the government was not in favour of taking such a decision, it had to be done due to pressure from social media and other quarters.
He said that the shops selling groceries, milk and vegetable would be kept open round the clock, but people should maintain social distancing.
The chief minister said that the decision of the government to keep open the shops will be implemented keeping in view the central government’s guidelines on the lockdown.
He said that people should maintain social distancing, as the country and the state is going through crucial phase as far as COVID-19 is concerned.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said that at least 1,500 people with the travel history of visiting places outside the state have been home quarantined.
He said that many have given wrong travel history to police, who will be acted upon. Police will visit their place and put stamp of home quarantine on their hand.
Sawant said that those who are home quarantined should remain indoor, and if they are found outside, the locals should inform the authorities.
Goa has registered three positive cases of COVID-19 infection.
