Vasco : GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Saturday evening felicitated the athletes of the Vasco Government gym for bringing in laurels to the state after 7 of 12 athletes affiliated to the gym won medals in the weightlifting at the National games held in Goa. Amonkar lauded the coach Mukesh Girap who had trained the participants to win medals , despite the lack of latest amenities available in the government gym at Vasco . Amonkar also appealed the Government to provide the best of facilities to sportsmen and athletes so that they could make the state proud at National level platforms.
” It is a record that around 1600 athletes participated from across the country in the National games held in Goa . We had 12 people participating from this gym from which 7 athletes won medals. It is a matter of great pride for Vasco and Goa that the athletes from Vasco have got 3 gold and 2 silver and bronze medals . Girap who is the coach here has been a national champion In his olden days as a student and has now turned into a successful coach. We have felicitated them to inspire ,motivate and suport these young athletes. We request the Government and other sports associations to felicitate these athletes at a bigger level ” said Amonkar
” Manisha Girap won two gold medals in Master One 84 plus kg Category, Regina Dourado won one gold and one silver medal in the Master Two 52kg category, Anushka Shirodkar won a silver medal in the Sub junior 84kg Category, Dhananjay naik won one bronze medal In the Master one 59kg category and Vaishali nerkar won a Bronze medal in the Senior 84kg

Girap thanked Amonkar for extending support to the athletes and motivating them with the felicitation.
