Anjuna: In a major crackdown on a nightclub constructed by illegally converting agricultural land, the Revenue Officer of Bardez taluka has directed Goya Goa Club, located at Anjuna in North Goa, to restore the land and pay a fine of Rs 15 lakh.
Deputy Collector (Bardez) Varsha Parab, in an order issued recently, has directed the management of Goya nightclub, Anjuna, to restore the land under Survey No. 410/1 of village Anjuna, Bardez, Goa, to its original use within a period of 30 days from receipt of the order. Failing compliance, the Mamlatdar of Bardez shall execute the order and recover the expenses from the respondent as arrears of land revenue.
Through the same order, Parab has also directed the club management to pay a penalty of Rs 15 lakh for illegally converting agricultural land to non-agricultural use without obtaining permissions.
The club was sealed by the authorities in the first week of December 2025 during a crackdown on illegally operating tourist establishments in the state. A total of 25 people were killed in a fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub at Arpora in the first week of December.
The petition before the Deputy Collector was filed by the Bardez Mamlatdar, stating that the club had violated Section 33 of the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, by illegally converting agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes through the construction of a nightclub admeasuring 2,500 square metres in village Anjuna, Bardez, Goa.
Parab stated that upon receipt of the report from the Mamlatdar of Bardez, a show-cause notice under Section 33 of the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, was issued to the respondent. The proceedings were initiated based on the report highlighting illegal construction of a nightclub on agricultural property without obtaining conversion sanction from the competent authority.
She concluded that the respondent had violated the provisions of Section 32 of the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, warranting the present order.
