Fatorda: Goa Forward Party chief and former Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday claimed that State government has negated the gender equality stand of the Prime Minister through the notification reconstituting South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA).

He also alleged that the clear attempts are on card to include Quepem area under the planning body, while keeping uncertainty over Margao.

“The gender bias in the reconstitution of SGPDA negates Prime Minister’s stand on gender equality,” Sardesai said.

He added that none of the women including Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Babita Angle has been excluded from the planning body while they have included Quepem municipal council chairperson in it.

“During Navaratri period Hindu nationalist party has insulted women,” he said.

He said that while the  constitution of any body is a prerogative of government, there is clear indication that Town and Country Planning Department  wants to modify planning area of SGPDA to include Quepem.

“It is very clear that Quepem is sought to be brought in Margao and they don’t know Margao will remain in Margao,” he said.

“It appears that the principle component of the PDA may be replaced,” he said referring to Margao.

“Government’s intentions are shown over their action. They have included Quepem Chairperson and excluded Margao chairperson. If you have Quepem as planning area they it becomes violation of Regional Plan,” he stated.
