Govt  to take help from coastal police has to tackle illegal fishing issue- Fisheries Minister

Panaji: Fisheries Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues has assured local fishermen that government has initiated necessary action to tackle the issue related to illegal fishing activities carried out by the outsiders.

Minister said that with the help of the coastal police, government will take all the steps to act against those involved in illegal fishing in the Goan waters.

 Rodrigues on Friday evening attended the meeting of traditional fishermen at Siridao. Local fishermen expressed their discomfort over illegal fishing carried out by the outsider thus creating hindrance in the business o local fishing community in the area.

 Parish Priest of Siridao Church, Fr. Valerian Vaz and traditional fishermen from Nauxim, Odxel, Cacra, Siridao, Bambolim, Goa Velha, Dona Paula, and Agassaim expressing their grievances to the Minister. They  informed that illegal fishing activities are being carried out early in the morning, afternoon and late evenings from both the sides i.e.  Dona Paula and Vasco and urged Fisheries Minister to take strict actions to ban such nuisance.

Minister for Revenue Jennifer Monserrate, St Andre MLA Francis Silveira, Director of Fisheries, Vinesh Arlekar and officials of Coastal Security Police were  present for the meeting.
