Panaji: All the pending financial of medal winning sportsmen in Goa would be paid by the state government Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said on Thursday.
Gaude told reporters in Panaji that it is true that the dues to be paid to the medal winning sportsmen are pending for years.
The minister said that all the dues of these sportsmen would be paid by Ganesh Chaturthi festival. The festival is scheduled to begin from August 31.
He said that when the issue was brought to his he “fired” all the officials of the Sports department who has kept the file. “It is not entirely mistake of the Sports department officials. There is some lapse also on the part of the sportsmen,” Gaude said.
The sports minister said that total Rs 42 lakh is pending to the various medal winning sportsmen to be paid by the government.
Goa government had designed a scheme assuring financial incentives to the sportsmen who are winning medals at national and international level.
