Govt allows teaching, non-teaching staff to work from home till July 31

Panaji: Goa Education Department on Saturday issued circular allowing teaching and non-teaching staff from various schools and educational institutes to work from home.

State Education Director Suresh Amonkar issued a circular fulfilling long pending demand of various teachers’ associations that were pressing for work from home for teaching and non-teaching staff, after COVID-19 spread was traced in the schools.

As per government records, four teachers and a peon had tested positive for the infection.

While Education Department has allowed working from home, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has asked schools to explore possibility of online admission for the students in eleventh standard.

The results of Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC), that is tenth standard, would be announced on July 28.

The circular issued on Friday, copy of which was made public on Saturday, has ordered closure of schools, education and coaching institutions will remain closed till July 31, 2020.

The department has said “the teching and non-teaching staff etc shall as far as possible will work from home and they should not be called to school/institutions unnecessarily.”

During this period, the teachers have been asked to make full use of the online training undergone by them to prepare original videos, notes, feedback forms, questionnaire, assignments using different OERs (Open Educational Resources).

The teachers are asked not to hold online classes for more than two hours a day.

The circular has said that the teacher should act like a mentor for a child (student) and be in touch with them over phone. The teachers are also asked to encourage elder students to teach younger ones.
