Governor Visits Educational Trust & Old Age Home, Provides Financial Assistance of Rs 1.00 Lakh Each

Panaji, March 15, 2025: The Governor, P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, paid courtesy visits to the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust and Special School, Margao, and later to Dr. Alfredo Antao Home for the Aged, Chandor, extending financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to both institutes.

Former Chief Minister and MLA, Margao, Digamber Kamat; Mukesh Saglani, Chairman of the Trust; and others welcomed the Governor by presenting a flower bouquet.

Others present were M. R. M. Rao, IAS, Secretary to the Governor; Mihir Vardhan, Special Officer; Ajit Panchwadkar, Director, Social Welfare; and Varsha Naik, Director, P.W.

Earlier, Mukesh Saglani, Chairman of the Trust, welcomed the guests and briefed them about the activities of the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust and Special School.

During his address, the Governor said that the Constitution of India mandates that the people of India are supreme. “MLAs, Ministers, or myself—we are all here to serve the people of Goa,” the Governor added.

The Governor further said, “I feel privileged to contribute to the State by the grace of God. Service to people is a way to realize God, and I aim to continue service-oriented initiatives through Raj Bhavan, which I believe should be a ‘Lok Bhavan’.” The Governor invited the people of Goa to visit Raj Bhavan to foster a heart-to-heart connection.

Addressing the function, Digamber Kamat said that Governor Sreedharan Pillai is a unique Governor who has traveled all over Goa and acquainted himself with the problems faced by Goans. He has communicated with the people, for which he is extending his support to the needy in the State, Kamat added.

Speaking further, Digambar Kamat assured all possible help to the Trust and said that the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust is continuously working to help children and give them the affection and love of parents.

Mihir Vardhan, Special Officer, spoke about the various activities conducted by Raj Bhavan and informed that more than Rs. 6.26 crores have been handed over as financial assistance to needy patients and 97 institutions across the State.

The Governor handed over financial assistance to the Chairman of Gujarati Samaj and also to Santosh Polkar, Devidas Survant, Zahir Shaikh, and Sunita Fernandes.

On his arrival at Chandor, Yuri Alemao, Leader of the Opposition; Jacinto Fernandes, Chairman, Dr. Alfredo Antao Home for the Aged; and others welcomed the Governor by offering flowers.

Euginio Dias, Sarpanch, and panch members were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the function in Chandor, Yuri Alemao said that the Governor has a golden heart and has been using his funds for the upliftment of the poor. “It’s always wonderful to hear about Raj Bhavan initiatives for using their resources to uplift the poor,” Alemao added.
