Panaji: The Goa government on Friday announced the blacklisting of a contractor after glaring flaws emerged in the renovation of the iconic Kala Academy building in Panaji, drawing sharp criticism from artists and the opposition alike.
Dr Pramod Sawant-led government had come into sharp criticism by artists and the opposition parties after the newly renovated Kala Academy building began showing up troubles, including disruption of sound system and lightings in its 1,000-seater Dinanath Mangueshkar auditorium.
Sawant on Friday told reporters that the state government has given time till October, 2025 for the contractor — Techton Buildcon Pvt Ltd — to rectify the botched renovation, which was awarded to him at the cost of Rs 50 crore.
The chief minister said that the contractor will have to complete the work, without billing anything to the state government.
In yet another decision, Sawant said that the government has also cancelled the proposal to sign four-year-long Annual Maintenance contract (AMC) agreement with him.
