Goencho Avaaz Party said that with public debt rising alarmingly and becoming a source of tremendous concern, it is apparent that the BJP government is out to extract every penny they can by squeezing the people for every last drop. The Party also condemned the unprecedented destruction that Goa is presently witnessing and its rapid downward descent, under the watch of CM Pramod Sawant.
“On every front, CM Sawant has failed Goa and her people. Our economy is in tatters, with unemployment sky-rocketing to 20.6%, whilst Goa’s GDP growth rate trails way below the national figure. Time and again, Sawant’s government keeps proving that it is anti-people. I urge the people of Goa to create their own ‘achhe din’ by utilizing their vote judiciously at next year’s polls to elect a government that is both worthy and competent enough to provide good governance’’ said Captain Viriato Fernandes, State Convenor, Goencho Avaaz Party: ‘On all sides, Goans are reeling under pressure and are feeling the pinch, particularly as the cost of living has become prohibitively expensive due to the callous mismanagement of a government whose only solution to every problem seems to be casting burden after burden on the citizen. With the people struggling to cope with exorbitant fuel and grocery prices, how could the Government strain household finances and budgets further by hiking the LPG cylinder price for the second time in less than two weeks? Why is the government tone-deaf to the suffering and hardships endured by Goa’s poor and middle class demographic?” he queried.
Roshan Mathias, Vice President, Goencho Avaaz said ‘’Given the fact that Goa has come to the point of no return, we believe that the people of Goa deserve better. They deserve a government that will act as the custodian of public interest and operate from a deep desire to do right by Goa. This is Goencho Avaaz’s commitment to Goans – that we will place the interest of the people at the core of every policy and decision we make’’.
Swapnesh Sherlekar, President of Goencho Avaaz Party said: ‘’The duplicity of the government as elections approach is evident from its ruse of bestowing 16,000 litres of free water upon its citizens, even as it slips in an extra Rs.100 in the water bill as charges for non existent inspections and covers itself by imposing heavy taxes on all fronts. This contradictory standard of behaviour in words and deeds can also be seen in Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate, who expressed grave doubts about the Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, and then as her own department presented the contentious bill in the Assembly, the Minister coolly went on to vote in favour of passing the Bill. If Pramod Sawant’s government had to be evaluated; I am sure that none of them would be able to pass muster. In addition, the luckless people of Goa have to contend with rapes, murders, fear and insecurity as the state experiences a total breakdown of law and order. All this speaks of a Government that has completely lost its way.
Goa is under siege. Its government has sold the state to crony capitalists without a thought for the well-being of the people. Goa desperately needs to be saved – and we at Goencho Avaaz are offering a strong alternative to fix the disasters brought about by the misrule of this government. Why should innocent Goans have to suffer for the transgressions of an accidental government that didn’t even receive the mandate of the people?’’ he concluded.
