Panaji: Goa’s apex tourism union on Monday congratulated State chief minister Pramod Sawant for his stand with regards to tourist taxi issue in the state by not allowing the demand to scrap app-based cab company.
Several taxi operators had agitated this month demanding that state government should scrap app-based cab service ‘Goa Miles’ which has been introduced in Goa since last year.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), in a press statement released here, has said that the chief minister and his cabinet has “displayed a great courage” by not bowing down to the influential tourist taxi lobby.
“The Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) congratulates Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on the strong and decisive leadership displayed by him on the tourist taxi issue,” the union has said in a statement released here.
“The transportation solutions which involve technology, especially app-based taxis, are a more efficient and fairer mechanism of price discovery and utilization of assets and are today the norm across most of the world,” TTAG has said.
“Goa cannot afford to be left behind in this space as it will render in us becoming noncompetitive and the CM and his cabinet have displayed great courage in seeing that we progress on this front,” the union added.
