Panaji: Even three days past the deadline to start vaccination for the people in an open group, the Goa government is not sure as to when the vaccines would actually arrive.
Goa government has already placed an order with Serum Institute of India and Bharat BioTech to provide the vaccines.
Director of Health Services Dr Jose D’Sa said that the government is still waiting for the revert from the SII. “We have asked them to provide us the vaccines and we are waiting for the revert from them. They said they will get back to us,” he said.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant had said that he had spoken to SII asking them to provide the vaccines. Goa would be procuring five lakh vaccines, which the government intends to provide free of cost to the people between 18 to 45 years through Health Centres.
Meanwhile, Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula and Redkar Hospital, Pernem have already began vaccination at a price for the people in open category.
