Panaji: The continuing rains in the state has failed to dampen the religious fervour of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities which will begin the State from September 2 onwards.
Ten-day-long Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the prominent festival celebrated by the coastal state with the people turning into their native to celebrate the event with their families.
State has been witnessing rains during the entire August month with few areas from Bicholim, Bardez and Pernem talukas in North Goa facing floods. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted that the rains will continue for next four days in the State.
IMD has issued monsoon forecast predicting that light to moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at most places over both the districts of Goa for next four days.
The department has also forecasted heavy rains at isolated places for next four days.
The fishermen have also been adviced against venturing in the Sea as rough to very rough weather conditions off-shore expected with winds achieving a speed of 45-55 kilometres per hour till September 4.
Despite continuing rains, the markets across the state were abuzz with the people rushing for last minute purchases. Panaji, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco city witnessed traffic jams on Saturday evening.
Corporation of City of Panaji on Sunday has appealed people not to burn fire crackers to control pollution levels in the city. CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that the people have been requested to control or shun the use of fire crackers which would avoid city getting polluted.
He said that the CCP has been urging people to celebrate eco-friendly Ganesh festivities.
