Panaji: Indian Metrological Department on Saturday predicted that Goa the monsoon will hit Goa on June 05, well within its schedule.
A senior IMD official from Goa office said that the monsoon will hit Kerala on May 31 after which it will progress towards Goa.
“The conditions are likely to become favourable for onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around May 31,” a senior IMD scientist Rahul M told Goa News Hub.
He said that the normal date of monsoon arrival for Kerala is June 01 and for Goa it is June 05, traditionally.
Speaking about progress of South West Monsoon over Goa, he said that the way monsoon will proceed depends on “various factors” and not necessary that it should take only four days to reach to Goa from Kerala.
“It can be shorter or longer based on the conditions favouring northward progression of monsoon,” he said.
He said that the monsoon first sets on Andaman and Nicobar islands followed by Bay of Bengal, Kerala and then Goa.

“The impact of cyclone Tauktae is over ”, he said it won’t have any more influence on Goa. Similarly the impact of cyclone Yaas is also over, he added.
Last year, Goa had received record highest rainfall which measured 44.3mm.
As of today weather warnings have been issued for fishermen for next five days and IMD has also informed that till May 31, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are very likely at isolated places in the coastal state.
