Goa, February 21: Goa is gearing up for a grand Shivshahi celebration on February 22, 2025, carrying forward the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with unmatched fervor. Over the years, the state has witnessed an extraordinary resurgence of Shiv Jayanti celebrations, with increased participation, historic installations, and unwavering devotion from Shivpremis across Goa.

Under the leadership of Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, the Department of Tourism has been at the forefront of reviving and elevating cultural celebrations across Goa. Minister Khaunte’s vision has ensured that Shiv Jayanti is celebrated on a larger scale, with municipalities receiving financial support and community participation reaching new heights, making Goa a true Bhagwamay land of Shiv Bhakti.

As Goa now moves towards Shivshahi on February 22, anticipation is reaching its peak. The event is expected to be a spectacular tribute to Shivaji Maharaj’s principles of Swarajya, justice, and valor. With growing participation and a surge in enthusiasm, Goa is set to witness one of the grandest Shivshahi celebrations to date.

Shiv Shahi – A Grand Theatrical Tribute To Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Written, produced, and directed by the visionary Mahendra Mahadik, this majestic production has enthralled the country with houseful performances on a mega revolving stage.

Shiv Shahi is no ordinary play—it is a breathtaking reenactment of an era where valor, strategy, and sacrifice sculpted the destiny of a nation. The grand production boasts a cast of 150+ artists, making history come alive with dazzling performances and awe-inspiring sequences.

Spectators are transported to the 17th century, as they witness real-life horses, bullock carts, a golden plough, and an 18-foot ship named Konkani navigating the stage in a masterstroke of immersive storytelling. The massive five-floor set, crowned with a revolving tower and a 12-foot idol of Goddess Bhavani, amplifies the grandeur of the play. Every moment, every scene, is crafted to ignite the spirit of the audience, leaving them mesmerized and brimming with pride.

Department Of Tourism’s Role In Cultural Preservation

The Department of Tourism, committed to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, has played a pivotal role in amplifying these celebrations.

Last year marked a milestone as Bicholim and Porvorim celebrated the 350th year of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation on a massive scale. Recognizing the enthusiasm and reverence of the people, the department extended support to six municipalities with grants of ₹5 lakh each to organize Shiv Jayanti Mahotsavs in collaboration with local mandals.

The overwhelming response from the people reflected the deep-seated admiration for Shivaji Maharaj, inspiring a continued tradition of grand-scale celebrations.

Following the roaring success of Chikal Kalo, which led to the installation of a statue in Porvorim, the state witnessed yet another significant step towards commemorating its historical and cultural icons.

This year, the tradition continued with grand Shiv Jayanti celebrations in Sankhli and Porvorim, while five municipalities were once again provided financial assistance to ensure widespread participation.

A Land Immersed In Shiv Bhakti

On the auspicious day of Shiv Jayanti, Goa turned into a Bhagwamay land, as streets, temples, and community halls echoed with the chants of “Har Har Mahadev!”

From the coastal belt to the hinterlands, every corner of Goa was immersed in Shiv Bhakti, as processions, cultural performances, and historical reenactments brought the glorious era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to life.

Stay tuned as the state continues to honor the indomitable spirit of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, ensuring that his legacy remains an eternal source of inspiration for generations to come.
