Panaji: Goa government on Tuesday said that they are all set to host the upcoming edition of National Games in October-November coming year with the infrastructure getting in place in next couple of months.
State Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired the high level meeting of officials at Secretariat near here on Tuesday morning to review the preparations for the National Games. State Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar was also present for the meeting.
Sawant said that the National Games would be held in Goa between October 20 to November 04, 2020 in Goa at different venues and infrastructure for the same is being set up.
“We have given different deadlines to various departments to set up the infrastructure required to host the National Games. I would be holding periodical review of the preparations,” he said.
Goa has drawn flak in the past from Indian Olympics Association for frequent postponment to host the National Games
Sawant said that the inauguration of different venues would begin in next two months.
The Chief Minister said that all the required infrastructure will be completed within the time as State has enough time at its disposal to do so.
Sawant said that the state government would seek additional funds from the centre to host the games. “We will ask for 50 per cent of the organizing cost from the centre,” he said adding that the organizing cost is pegged at Rs 250 crore.
He said that the state government would spend Rs 450 crore on creating infrastructure for the games, which will be participated by around 12,000 Athletes.
