Panaji: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday said that the state will have AI cameras installed at important places by early next year. Talking to reporters after participating in the function Road Safety Week in Panaji, Godinho said that the AI cameras would be installed at important places by early next year.

He said that this will help the authorities to monitor traffic situations and also curb road accidents in the coastal state. Godinho said that the Transport Department has already collected data on accidents on Goan roads. “We will sit with data and make decisions. The decisions will be taken in coordination with the other departments, such as Police and the Public Works Department,” he said.

The transport minister said that the public transport system should go to a digital platform to avoid accidents. “We are trying to change the system, and there should not be resistance from anyone,” he said, pointing out that taxi services opting for app-based bookings will result in an increase in their revenue and also a reduction in tariffs.

“Goa cannot be isolated because the trend is going digital everywhere. It will help the common people,” he said. Speaking about the accidents involving rent-a-cars or rent-a-bikes, Godinho said that the state government has stopped issuing fresh licenses for both segments.
