Panaji: Goa Tourism department wants to explore newer international markets like South Korea and Western Europe to get high-spending tourists to the beach destination.

State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told reporters on Friday that a Public Relation Agency will soon be taken on board to explore newer international markets to get high spending tourists to Goa.

Khaunte said that Goa currently largely dependents on the UK and Russia to get the international footfalls. “If there is any issues in these markets, then the international arrivals to the state drops. We need to work on this situation,” he said.

The Tourism minister said that the department will soon be taking a Public Relation Agency on board to explore newer markets like South Korea and Western Europe.

Khaunte also welcomed the action of Goa Police to issue order asking its personnels to stop the vehicles only if there is visible traffic violation. He said that there were complaints about harassment to tourists by Traffic Police in the state.

“During my first meeting with the DGP, I had raised this issue of harassment to tourists by police,” he said thanking Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for taking prompt action to address this issue.

Khaunte said that the tourists arriving here should always go back with good memories. The minister stated that the State government will now act against illegally operating touts and also businesses operating without permission.

The minister also supported the concept of App-based Taxi service in the coastal state.
