Panaji: Goa State Commission for Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday issued notices to various authorities after the death of a seven-year-old girl child with intellectual disabilities due to burn injuries at a missionaries run Home at Old Goa.
The girl died of burn injuries after falling into a bath tub with hot water in a centre for the specially-abled in Old Goa on Monday.
The Commission took suo-moto cognizance of the incident on Wednesday and issued notice to St Xavier’s Training cum Production Centre for Children with Disabilities in Old Goa.
A senior official from the Commission said that they have issued notices to the District Magistrate, North, the Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, North and South and the Police Inspector, Old Goa calling for a detailed report in the matter and has asked to submit action taken report on or before 21 February 2023.
In its notice, the commission noted that the aforementioned occurrence points to a violation of Section 7 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, which states protection of persons with disabilities from abuse, aggression, and exploitation.
Old Goa police have already filed First Information Report in connection with the case. As per the police complaint, the mentally unwell child was rushed to a private hospital and then the state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital, where she died of 79 per cent burns at 2am on Monday.
