Panaji: The resident doctors working with different state-run COVID-19 hospitals have threatened to withdraw their services after they were attacked in by family members of the patients twice during last ten days.
Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD), in a media statement issued on Thursday, claimed that their members were attacked in two different incidents on April 18 and April 28 at South District Hospital in Margao and Goa Medical College and Hospital near here, respectively.
GARD has said the family members of the COVID-19 positive patients were involved in both the attacks.
“We would like to state to the people of Goa and the health authorities, if any further violent incident happens to any resident doctor or staff working in these covid hospitals, we, the 300-odd doctors managing almost all the workload of covid-19 in the state, will have no other choice but to withdraw our services with immediate effect,” the Association has said.
The GARD has said that they will not be giving any notice of strike, if such incidents happen again.
Narrating about the incident on April 18, which happened at South District Hospital at Margao, GARD has said that the doctors on duty and medical staff of ICU of the facility were abused by the relatives after demise of the patient.
The Association said that similar incident happened on April 28 at GMCH where doctors and nurses were abused and a ventilator was broken by the patient’s relatives.
