Panaji: The Goa government on Thursday received the first slot of Covaxin vaccines as a part of the mammoth exercise to immunize almost 74,000 children between the age of 15 to 18 years.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar told PTI that the first slot of 74,200 covaxin vaccines arrived in the state on Thursday.

“These vaccines would be administered to children between the age group of 15 to 18 years of age from January 03 onwards,” he said.

In order to cover the maximum number of children, the State Education department has been roped in to ensure that the students are given vaccines  in the campuses.

Borkar said that a team of nurses would be visiting each school to immunize the students after taking written consent from their parents.

He said that the second dose of the vaccine would be given after 28 days to the students.

Prime minister Narendra Modi had recently announced the program to vaccinate children between the age group of 15 to 18 years along with the frontline workers and covid warriors, who would get the booster dose.
