Panaji: Goa is ranked as Second Best State with school infrastructure and facilities in the Country by the Union Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) through a Performance Grading Index (PGI) undertaken by it in 2017-18.
The PGI is basically a tool to provide insights on the status of school education in the State and Union Territories (UTs) including key levers that drive their performance and critical areas for improvement.
Goa obtained Grade III with total weighted of 738 points, out of 1000, together for quality of education (21 rank), access to school (7 rank), infrastructure and facilities (2 rank), governance processes (26) and equity (13 rank).
Goa ranked second on the infrastructure and facility front with 138 points out of 150. The State is just behind Punjab who has scored one point more that is 139. The facilities basically include providing science lab, computer lab, mid-day meal facility, drinking water, uniforms, textbooks and other basic facilities.
