Goa prepares for the third wave of COVID-19 infection

Panaji: Goa government on Friday announced formation of the Special Task force to tackle the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also announced that his government would be floating global tenders for procuring the vaccines so that the walk-in vaccination can be started for the age group of 18-44 in the state.

“A  Special Task Force for the preparation of COVID-19 third wave has been formed,” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister would be chairing the task force, which will have Health Minister Vishwajit Rane as its Vice Chairman.

“The 15-member Task Force will also include doctors from the government and private sectors,” Sawant said.

The chief minister said that yet another Experts’ Committee of the doctors will be formed under the chairmanship of Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital Dr Shivanand Bandekar.

“The Experts’ Committee will take a call on amending the treatment protocols as and when required,” he said.

Both the committees will have paediatricians as the third wave will reportedly affect the children, Sawant said.

Goa government has also decided to set up a 60 bedded special Intensive Care Unit for the children in Super Speciality Block of Goa Medical College and Hospital.

He said that the services of private paeditricians and also those who have retired from services would be taken to run the ICU.

Speaking about the vaccination, Sawant said that the state will float global tenders for procuring the vaccines so that the people between the age group of 18-44 can walk-in to get the vaccine.
