Panaji: The Goa Police Department is facing a shortage of nearly 1,000 personnel across different ranks compared to the sanctioned strength, the House was informed on Tuesday.
Responding to a question tabled by BJP MLA Ulhas Naik Tuenkar, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that while the sanctioned strength of the force is 7,791, there are currently only 6,881 policemen in service, highlighting a significant shortfall.
The shortage is evident across all ranks, including senior positions:
-
The post of Additional Director General of Police is vacant.
-
One Superintendent of Police (SP) post remains unfilled.
-
All nine sanctioned posts for Deputy Commandant of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) are vacant.
-
Out of 21 sanctioned Deputy Superintendent of Police (IRB) posts, only two are filled.
-
Out of 42 sanctioned Deputy Superintendent of Police posts, only 26 are occupied.
The most severe shortage is at the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) level, where 514 posts are sanctioned, but only 331 are filled.
There is also a shortfall in Head Constables and Police Constables, further impacting the operational capacity of the force.
