Panaji: Goa police on Friday booked its lady sub-inspector Anoushka Parab for abetment to suicide after a South Goa-based lawyer committed suicide alleging harassment by her.
Advocate Jayant Prabhu had committed suicide at his residence in Davorlim village near Margao town on Thursday, hours after a police team led by LPSI Anoushka Parab raided his house. The team was searching for his son, Pritesh, who was booked by Margao police in connection with a molestation case filed against him.
South Goa lawyers’ Association on Friday protested before Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai’s office demanding immediate FIR against the LPSI. They pointed out that the lawyer in his suicide note had mentioned Parab as the reason for taking the extreme step.
Son of the deceased, Ashish Prabhu, had filed a formal complaint against the LPSI and others, who were present during the raid. The lawyers protested before the DySP on Friday evening.
After initial reluctance, DySP Desai told the protestors that the formal complaint for abetment to suicide would be registered against the LPSI. “We will investigate the allegations levelled against the LPSI by the family members of the deceased,” he said.
