Panaji: Goa on Saturday recorded 36 new coronavirus cases that raised the tally of infections to 2,45,982, an official from the state health department said.
The coastal state has witnessed a rise in infections over the last three days after recording cases in single digit in the entire month of May.
Goa had recorded 47 and 50 infections on Thursday and Friday respectively.
As many as 20 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the count of recoveries to 2,41,917, while the toll remained unchanged at 3,832, as no fresh fatalities were reported, the official said.
The state now left with has 233 active cases, he said.
At least 679 swab samples were tested on Saturday, taking the total number of tests carried out in the state to 19,54,613.
In a video message released on Saturday, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has expected the number of cases to rise in the days to come.
“We have seen the trend in five states where the number of cases are on rise. Goa may also witness similar situation in days to come,” Rane said appealing people to adopt COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
He said that the government on its own cannot fight back the virus unless there is cooperation from the people. “I appeal everyone of you to wear mask in public places,” he said.
Rane said that Goa is a tourist State and it is apt for us to ensure that the COVID-19 cases does not rise here.
He said that the citizens should immediately get themselves tested for COVID-19 infection, if there is any slight symptom of the virus. “Government run Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and Goa Medical College is always there for your help,” he said, in a three minute video clip that he uploaded on his social media account.
