Panaji: Goa government on Monday announced that mass vaccination drive for the people above 45 years of age in all the panchayats and municipalities of the state from May 26 onwards.
In his address to the public, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that only 60 percent of the population above 45 years of age has taken the vaccine, while 40 per cent are yet to be covered.
“In order to cover all the people who are above 45 years of age, Tika Utsav would be held across all the panchayats and municipalities in the state from May 26 onwards,” Sawant said.
The chief minister said that this time it would be held at same places where Tika Utsav was held during the first round.
He said that only first dose of vaccine would be given during the Tika Utsav, while those who are due for the second dose, can get it from their respective health centres.
CM Sawant inaugurated Smart Labor Card facility in state
Panaji : Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Smart Labor Card facility in the state after the government made the first attempt in Goa to provide smart labor cards for the safety and welfare of organized and unorganized workers.
The Chief Minister said that all the schemes and policies in the field of labor and employment would be linked to the Smart Labor Card. He said the launch of the smart labor card scheme would help the government in formulating policies and making decisions on various issues of labor and employment. He congratulated the Labor and Employment Department for trying to introduce smart labor cards for the benefit of the workers. He said the department had made about 9,500 cards in its first attempt and the rest would be made soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Labor and Employment Minister Jennifer Monserrat said that the Department of Labor and Employment has introduced smart labor cards for workers as well as employers and employers’ unions. Monserrat said the card was introduced by the Goa government under the Goa Employment and Retirement Benefits Act 2001 for the welfare, security, education and protection of workers. The Labor Card is an online provision and has been launched on the State Service Delivery Portal. That said. He said the government’s initiative would help in registering workers of all unions.
Revenue Secretary Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Labor and Employment Department and Goa Electronic staff were present on the occasion. The event was organized by the Office of the Commissioner of Labor and Employment.
