Panaji: Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Monday said that the shortage of tourism security force on the beaches is resulting in various illegalities on the shoreline.
Khaunte said that the activities of illegal touts, guides and hawkers should be curbed with the help of police. He said that the instances of tourists driving their vehicles on the beaches also needs to be stopped and offenders be punished should be tackled through the police force.
The minister was talking to mediapersons after chairing a meeting with the Members of Legislative Assembly from the Coastal belt of the state.
Khaunte said that the state is facing shortage of tourism security force, which needs to be addressed through the policy.
“For the upcoming tourist season, we should be ready with the number of police on the beach that is required,” the minister said.
He said that he would be calling for a meeting of Deputy Superintendent of Police with the Beachline as their jurisdiction to discuss the situation in the tourism belt.
Khaunte said that while the tourism department wants to ensure that all the illegalities on the beach front is eradicated, the attempts are also made to provide “best experience” for the visitors.
He said that the policies in this sector would be framed keeping in mind the safety of the travelers. Khaunte stated that the tourist guides would be given proper certification courses and only those with the valid certificates will be allowed to be in the business.
