Panaji: State Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that Goa government can try to emulate the Delhi government’s policy of uninterrupted power supply, if it is feasible.
Speaking on the cut motion for Electricity department on the floor of the House on Thursday night, Dhavalikar refused the demand of AAP Goa MLA Venzy Viegas to provide 300 units of electricity free of cost in the coastal state. He claimed that that Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government is already giving free electricity and same model can be emulated in Goa.
Viegas also demanded that Goa should get uninterrupted power supply for the consumers.
Responding to him, Dhavalikar said that while AAP is giving 200 units of free electricity in Delhi, it is not repeating its own model in Punjab. The minister also went on to compare electricity tariff between Goa and Delhi claiming that the former provides cheaper electricity.
“The electricity tariff in Goa is much cheaper compared to Delhi,” he commented.
The minister said that the AAP, which gave free electricity in Delhi, could not extend the same scheme to Punjab. “On the other hand, 20 days after AAP government was inducted, the Punjab government asked the Industries in its state to shut down in the night to avoid load shedding,” the minister said.
Dhavalikar said that Goa government can’t accept the suggestion of giving free electricity but “try to emulate the Delhi government’s policy of uninterrupted power supply, if it is feasible.” “We can do more than what Delhi government is doing,” he added.
AAP which had contested 2022 Goa elections had made free electricity and uninterrupted water supply as its main poll plank. Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit has won two seats during 2022 Goa polls.
