Goa govt appoint Administrators on 175 village panchayats

Panaji: Goa government on Friday appointed Administrators in all the 175 village panchayats of the state, whose five year tenure is getting lapsed on June 19.

State Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho told reporters that the State has not held the elections for these 175 panchayat bodies, because of which the Administrators are appointed on them.

He said that the five year tenure of these bodies is getting over on June 19.

Godinho said that as a natural consequence of the Supreme Court order which has made mandatory triple test for the reservation of wards for Other Backward Class community.

The minister said that the State government has to take help of State OBC Commission and ensure that the wards are reserved based on the population.

Godinho said that the election can also not be held because of the monsoons, which has set in. “After monsoon, we will be conducting the elections. By that time, all the data of OBC community will be ready,” he added.

In absence of the bodies, the state government has appointed Administrators in all the 175 panchayat bodies who will work under the supervision of Block Development Officer (BDO).
