Panaji: Three days after cyclonic winds resulted in the loss of two lives, the Goa government on Wednesday sanctioned financial assistance of Rs four lakh for the families of the deceased.
Announcing the assistance, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted “We are extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to Tauktae cyclone in Goa. The Govt has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs four lakh for every family of the deceased due to cyclone in the State. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families in this time of grief.”
The chief minister had told reporters on Sunday that two people had lost their lives due to the cyclonic winds.
A middle-aged woman, who had gone to fetch water on a well nearby her house in North Goa, died after coconut tree fell on her, while another man, who was travelling on a two-wheeler in South Goa, died when he was crushed under the electric pole on the main road.
The coastal state faced the cyclonic wind leaving behind a trail of disaster on Saturday and Sunday. As per the government record, more than hundred houses suffered major damages while thousands of trees were uprooted with the gusty winds and unseasonal rain.
Majority part of the state remained in darkness for almost three days before the power supply was fully restored on Wednesday evening.
