Goa goes off the streets as Janata Curfew begins

Panaji: Goa streets wore deserted look from 8 pm on Thursday as the state observed Janata Curfew to curb the increasing cases of COVID-19 infection.

Goa government has announced Janata Curfew between 8 p.m to 6 a.m. in the state till August 10, while three day lockdown will be held on July 17, 18 and 19.

Initiating Janata Curfew, the State administration has imposed the ban on movement of all individuals for all non-essential activities between 8 pm to 6 am till August 10, 2020.

Preparing for three day long lockdown, the people had thronged markets across the state to stock for the essentials.

The streets of all the cities were flooded in the evening before the Janata Curfew was imposed at 8 p.m.

“People have cooperated very well. There was no one on the street since 8 p.m.,” a senior police official said.

He said that respective police stations have kept stringent look out on the violators, who would be immediately arrested.

Goa’s COVID-19 cases have touched 3,108 mark with triple digit new cases being reported every day.

State government has decided to ahead with the lockdown to break the chain of the infection.
