Goa goes for lockdown, streets wore deserted look, transportation of ore continues

Panaji:  The streets wore deserted look amidst heavy rains with Goa starting its three-day-long lockdown to break the chain of COVID-19 infection in the state.

State government has announced three-day-long lockdown in the coastal state after the number of COVID-19 cases spiraled up to triple digit constantly over a week.

While essential services including Industrial Estate are left out of the ambit of the lockdown, the non-essential movement of the people have been banned for three days.

Goa is also witnessing incessant rains since last one week.

The areas of Sankhalim and Bicholim witnessed transportation of iron ore going on in full swing.

The roads were left slippery with the spilling of the ore and continued rains.

People were seen sharing pictures of the transportation of the ore during the lockdown. Centre has classified mining as essential services.

Few markets in the state saw people venturing out during early morning hours to buy milk and bread, but the rush disappeared around 9 a.m.

Goa Police have been strictly patrolling all the areas in the state to ensure that there is no violation of lockdown.

“There were no major cases of violation of lockdown reported. There were some minor incidents wherein police convinced the people to go indoors,” a senior police official said.

Goa government has also imposed Janata Curfew in the state between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. everynight till August 10, which will continue even after lockdown is lifted.
