Goa gets Rs 400 crore from Casino Industry

Panaji: Goa government on Wednesday told the House that a revenue of Rs 411 crore were collected during the last fiscal from various casinos including those operating off shore.
State chief minister Pramod Sawant in the Performance Budget for Home Department tabled during the ongoing state legislative assembly session has also said that Rs 22 lakh was spent for financial year 2018-19 towards expenses of Haj Pilgrims.
Goa Home department administers The Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976 is administered by the department. “Under the said Act, presently there are six off shore and eight on shore casinos operating in the state,” he said.
The revenue collected for the year 2018-19 is Rs 411.44 crore.
Sawant said that every year Haj Pilgrims are visited Holy Place at Saudi (Mecca). “Expenses elated to Goa State Haj committee who are performing vaccination programme, orientation programme etc before Pilgrims leave to Mecca are met  from the budget allotted to Home department,” he said.
The chief minister told the House that in the year 2081-19, an amount of Rs 22.82 lakh has been utilized towards orientation programme, vaccination programme and other expenses towards Haj Pilgrims by 122 pilgrims.
