Panaji: Two days after a 21-year-old youth from Indore died due to a suspected drug overdose in Goa, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal questioned how drugs are so easily accessible in the state.
The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee also condemned the incident.
Ishant Singh Badgujar, who was on vacation in Goa along with his friend, was taken to the North Goa District Hospital on Saturday after he fell sick.
Anjuna Police sources confirmed that the doctor declared him brought in dead.
While police have not issued any formal statement on the cause of death, sources at the Goa Medical College and Hospital said that he died due to a suspected drug overdose.
A senior GMCH official said that he suffered a heart attack due to a suspected drug overdose. While details of the postmortem are yet to be revealed, the official said that he had consumed a cocktail of drugs on the night of the incident.
The AAP National Convenor on Tuesday questioned how drugs are so easily accessible in Goa.
Kejriwal wrote on X that a young life was lost after a 21-year-old boy from Indore died in Goa after consuming a deadly mix of drugs and alcohol, and questioned how drugs are so easily accessible in the state.
Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Archit Naik said that Goa’s image across India is deteriorating from a tourist paradise to a hub of narcotics and lawlessness.
He said that a young tourist from Indore had tragically lost his life, with the postmortem indicating a drug overdose, and added that this was not an isolated incident as drugs are now circulating even in the hinterlands of the state.
He further said that the silence of BJYM and ABVP, the youth and student wings of the BJP, is alarming and raises serious questions.
He questioned whether political patronage is shielding the drug trade when those in power choose to look away.
