Panaji: Mapusa Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub at Arpora, which caught fire, killing 25 people in December last year.
Additional Sessions Judge Dvijple Patkar on Wednesday granted bail to the Luthra brothers, who were arrested on December 17, 2025, ten days after the tragic incident.
Advocate Parag Rao, representing the accused, said that both have been granted conditional bail by the court.
Though the court granted relief to the Luthra brothers in connection with the main case of culpable homicide filed against them by Anjuna Police after the incident, they will remain in police custody for another offence.
Mapusa Police have booked the Luthra brothers for forging documents to obtain the NOC from the Health Department, which was used to secure the excise licence for the property. The Additional Sessions Court had refused to grant anticipatory bail to the Luthra brothers on Friday, when they were lodged at Central Jail, Colvale.
Both brothers were taken into custody by Mapusa Police on Monday and remanded to four days of police custody. Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra will remain in jail until they secure bail in the forgery case filed against them.
The ill-fated incident occurred on December 6, 2025, when the club caught fire. A total of 25 people, the majority of whom were staff of the nightclub, died due to suffocation in the incident.
Police have filed a chargesheet against 13 people in connection with the case, which includes three owners of the club — Saurabh Luthra, Gaurav Luthra, and Ajay Gupta.
Gupta was granted regular bail by the Mapusa Court earlier last month.
