Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar has written a letter to the party high command demanding action against Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira for alleged anti-party conduct.

The letter, dated July 11, 2025, was addressed to All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa Desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare. Patkar stated that Ferreira’s behaviour has demoralised party cadres across Goa and raised questions about his loyalty to the party.

The timing of the letter is notable—it was sent just a day after Ferreira attended the birthday celebration of BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral, a political arch-rival of Patkar.

“On July 10, 2025, Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Congress MLA from Aldona, was seen participating in a birthday celebration hosted by BJP Curchorem Mandal for their MLA and former Minister Nilesh Cabral in Curchorem,” the letter states.

Patkar said Ferreira’s presence at such a high-profile BJP gathering—at a time when the Congress is strongly opposing the BJP government’s misrule—is not only unfortunate but a blatant and deliberate violation of party discipline.

The GPCC President pointed out that the party had organised an outreach programme in Curchorem just three days prior to the birthday celebration.

“Carlos Ferreira chose not to attend this Congress-led initiative but appeared without hesitation at a BJP event in the same constituency. This sends a distressing and demoralising message to our cadre, especially in Curchorem, where we narrowly lost by just 600 votes in the last election and are working diligently to regain lost ground,” Patkar said.

He also referred to an earlier incident—on December 15, 2023—when a detailed confidential note was submitted to the then AICC Goa Desk in-charge Manickam Tagore. The note flagged a consistent pattern of anti-party behaviour by Ferreira.

Patkar added that despite several internal efforts to correct this behaviour, Ferreira’s actions have only worsened.

“His continued public engagements with BJP leaders, while serving as a Congress MLA, undermine the moral authority of the party, demoralise ground-level workers, and create public confusion about our collective political stance,” Patkar concluded.
