Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday distributed compensation to the farmers whose crop was damaged due to the recent floods witnessed in the state.
In a function held in Panaji, the chief minister distributed cheques of compensation to the farmers from Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas which were most affected due to the floods.
“Recent floods and rains have caused a lot of damage to crop and property in the state. Therefore, as promised we have handed out compensation before Ganesh Chaturthi festival,” he said.
The ten day long Ganesh Chaturthi festival will begin from September 2.
He said that the compensation cheques to the farmers from Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas of North Goa were handed on Tuesday.
As per the estimate by State Agriculture department, more than 500 farmers were affected due to the floods that were witnessed in the state during last fortnight.
