Goa cabinet gives its nod for IT policy, aims at reverse migration

Porvorim: State Cabinet chaired by chief minister Manohar Parrikar today gave its approval for the much awaited Information Technology policy which aims to be a employment generating engine in the State. The policy has assured creation of  8,000-10,000 jobs in next five years.

IT minister Rohan Khaunte said that the policy would be formally announced by union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in a function on July 15 in Panaji.

He said that the policy aims to have reverse migration of the manpower in Goa and also providing employment opportunities to the tune of 8,000-10,000 vacancies at different levels during next five years.

The minister said that the policy has provision of developing Technology park, ready to move in wrm shells, plug-and-play facilities, incubation centres with training etc for new and existing IT units.

The incentives would be provided to the units which recruit Goan freshers and fresher from Goa technical institutes, he said adding that the additional incentives would be given for recruitments through on-campus placements.

The policy document, a copy of which was circulated to the media, speaks of establishment of centres of excellence in collaboration with the industry to promote skill development amongst faculty and staff of technical institutes.

The IT department will also have training programs and knowledge sharing camps in collaboration with industry and other instates of high learning to enhance skill quotient of the students, he said.

The policy provides provision of giving special incentives for smaller business units like marketing support to attend pre-approved, reputed exhibition, performance linked grant for demonstrating promising year on year growth and interest subsidy on working capital loans.

Khaunte said that the special incentives are also proposed under the policy to units that are registered in goa and are owned by or have majority stakeholder of Goan origin.
