Panaji: The Goa government has begun a process to prepare an official inventory of private museums, private antiquities, and private collections of rare antiques and specialized articles.
Director of Museum Vasu Usapkar, in a notice issued on Monday, has said that to preserve and document our nation’s rich cultural heritage the Directorate of Museums, announces the commencement of an official inventory of private museums, private antiquities and private collections of rare antique and specialized articles.
The Director said that this initiative aims to create a comprehensive database that will enhance the protection, conservation, and promotion of these valuable cultural assets.
This inventory aims to create the documentation to ensure detailed records of all significant private collections and items of historical, cultural, and artistic value.
Usapkar said that this will also help to identify items that require preservation efforts and provide necessary support and guidance.
The notification said that the inventory will highlight the cultural significance of these collections and promote public awareness and appreciation.
This will also help in enhancing the security measures for these valuable collections to prevent theft and illicit trafficking.
Usapkar said that the owners and custodians of private muscums, private antiquities, and collections of rare antique and specialized articles are requested to cooperate with museum officials in this inventory process.
