Panaji: The Goa Legislative Assembly on Tuesday congratulated two defence personnel of Goan origin for their contribution to Operation Sindoor.
During the Winter Session of the House on Tuesday, Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar passed a resolution congratulating Maria Ismenia Sancha Perreira and Captain Jijo Jose Ovelil for their contribution during Operation Sindoor.
The resolution stated that the House congratulates Commander Maria Ismenia Sancha Perreira for being honoured with a Mention-In-Despatch for playing a crucial role in radar intelligence during Operation Sindoor.
In another resolution, the House congratulated Group Captain Jijo Jose Ovelil, hailing from Porvorim, a fighter pilot in the Bharatiya Vayu Sena, for being honoured with a Mention-In-Despatch for his contribution during Operation Sindoor.
The resolution further stated that he was earlier decorated with the Vayu Sena Medal in 2022 and described him as an icon of courage, dedication and selfless service to the nation.
The House also congratulated The Foundation to Educate Girls Globally, widely known as Educate Girls, for being among the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees.
The resolution stated that Educate Girls is the first Indian organisation to receive the prestigious award, which is considered Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
