Panaji: Embarking on a mission to be the first state in the country to vaccinate all the population above 18 years of age as a fight against COVID-19, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the people should cooperate and come out to get themselves inoculated.
Sawant said that the state government has set a target of vaccinating all the population between 18-44 years by July 30, this year.
The chief minister was talking to reporters in Panaji after participating in the function organised by State Forest Department.
“I want all the people, who are eligible for vaccination to get themselves inoculated. Goa has set a target of July 30 (2021) to vaccinate entire population between 18-44 years,” he said.
“I want Goa to be the first state in the country to have hundred per cent vaccination (for the people above 18 years),” Sawant said.
The chief minister said that the state has prioritized both the parents of children, differently abled, Seafarers, motorcycle taxi, taxi and rickshaw operators to get the vaccination in phases.
“We had opened up the vaccination for the parents of the child with less than two years and also for those with comorbidity on Thursday (yesterday). I had taken the review and found that only 1,300 people had got themselves vaccinated under this category,” he said.
Sawant said that the state government has now widened the scope for vaccination under priority group covering the parents with children till five years of age.
Responding to a question on state-wide curfew that is scheduled to culminate on June 07, the chief minister said that he would be holding a review meeting on June 06 to decide on continuation of the curfew.
“We will take stock of the situation before deciding on the curfew,” he said.
