Panaji: In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party in Goa, a group of senior leaders, including former Goa President Amit Palekar, current Working President Shrikrishna Parab and other office bearers, have resigned from the party.
Palekar was recently removed from the post of Goa President after the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the recently held Zilla Panchayat elections in the state.
Parab, who is the party’s State General Secretary (Organisation), was given additional charge as Acting President following Palekar’s removal.
Other leaders who tendered their resignations on Monday include State Vice Presidents Chetan Kamat and Sarfaraz, and Goa State Youth Wing President Rohan Naik.
Speaking to reporters, Palekar said he took the decision to quit the party after consulting his supporters. He said his supporters wanted clarity in his political future.
Palekar said his four-year journey with the party has come to an end without any regrets, adding that he has done whatever he could during his tenure. He also said he learnt a great deal from leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi Marlena and Pankaj Gupta while serving in the party.
During the press conference, Parab said he resigned as he did not approve of the manner in which Palekar was removed from the post. He added that all the leaders would continue working together in the future.
