New Delhi: The people dependent on mining industry has submitted memorandum to PM Narendra Modi through his office requesting his intervention.

Thousands of mining dependents are protesting in New Delhi since last three days demanding that the Iron Ore industry should be resumed. The industry has been shut down due to Supreme Court order quashing 88 mining leases.

“After the stoppage of mining activities in the State many people who were directly employed in the mining industry have been retrenched and as a consequence have lost their jobs,” GPMF President Puti Gaonkar has said in a memorandum submitted to PMO.

“If any immediate measures are not taken than the same number is likely to increase exponentially rendering a large population of the State jobless,” the dependents have said.

GPMF has also sought appointment of the PM so as to personally present the case.

“Small scale entrepreneurs like truck, barge and machinery owners have lost their only source of income and are left clutching at the straws to safeguard their children’s future,” the memorandum reads.

GPMF has said that it has been more than eight months since many have earned a single rupee which will aid them in their sustenance. “I would therefore take this opportunity to request your good self as leader of common people, which strives towards working for the betterment of masses to please look into the matter and take necessary steps to ensure a sustainable livelihood to lakhs of people,” it adds.
