Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack Chief Minister Pramod Sawant from the post, alleging his inability to handle narcotics trade in the state.
GFP was reacting to the pictures circulated on social media in which actor Kapil Jhaveri, who was arrested for hosting rave party on Saturday, was seen with the Chief Minister.
GFP MLA Vinod Palyekar, addressing a press conference in the party office, said that he urges the PM to sack Sawant from the post and replace him with other BJP ministers like Vishwajit Rane or Michael Lobo on the chair.
Palyekar said that Sawant has failed to control the narcotics trade in the coastal belt, and instead has been found clicking pictures with the drug paddlers.
The former state minister also said that local police station was shielding the drug trade in the state. Palyekar also demanded sacking of Police Inspector Suraj Gawas in charge of Anjuna Police Station, alleging that he has been not acting against the rave parties in his jurisdiction.
Crime Branch on Saturday had arrested 23 people including three foreign women nationals after busting a rave party in the villa owned by actor Kapil Jhaveri.
Reacting to the pictures, Sawant earlier in the morning had told reporters that he had met Jhaveri in his official capacity. “I have given free hand to the police to investigate the case,” he said.
