Panaji: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested former TMC candidate Sandeep Vazarkar in connection with the land grab and forgery case.
Vazarkar was arrested on Thursday, police said. This is his second arrest during this year, the first being in the month of January where he was arrested for bounced cheque matter.
A senior police official said that the case against Vazarkar was filed at Mapusa Police station. He was accused of forging land documents and cheating a couple to the tune of Rs 27 lakhs.
The case was handed over to SIT by State Police.
The issue of land grabbing at Porvorim was raised several times in the legislative assembly.
Vazarkar was TMC’s candidate from Porvorim Assembly segment where he unsuccessfully contested during recently held election.
