New Delhi: The mining dependents got the boost for the demand when former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Thursday assured them to take up their issue in Parliament and if required also with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Goa Mining People’s Front is are currently protesting in Delhi demanding resumption of mining activity which has been stalled since March, after Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.
Gowda visited the protestors at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on their third day of protest on Thursday, where he was presented the memorandum by GMPF.
“I will go through the memorandum. If it is necessary I will take up the issue in the parliament in the form of calling attention motion or special discussion and I will try to do my best,” Gowda assured the protestors.
“I hope that other friends also co-operate with me in the parliament. What injustice has happened to you people, that injustice must be corrected by the state and central government and for your cause I will take up the issue and do my best,” he assured.
Gowda said “by raising this issue in the parliament, I hope the government will respond to your demand.”
“I will have to see that this type of issue is taken up in the parliament. If I am not able to do it in current session then I am going to meet the prime minister,” he added.
